Millions of fans around the world were left heartbroken when Paul McCartney announced the end of The Beatles 50 years ago today.

Paul, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr made up the biggest band the world had ever seen but after years of infighting, the magic was finally over and the group was no more.

On April 10, 1970, the front page of the Daily Mirror revealed the news - The Beatles had split. It was Paul McCartney who delivered the news as he launched his first solo album, and the fall-out for him was swift and brutal.

His first two solo offerings were slated by both critics and fans and he was vilified for ending the Fab Four. The four friends from Liverpool had dominated the charts around the world throughout the Swinging
