Over 100 North Lanarkshire teachers axed as council wishes them "well-deserved summer break"

North Lanarkshire Council wished dozens of teachers “a well-deserved summer break” after telling them they would not be in full-time employment after the holidays.

Teaching union the EIS confirmed to Lanarkshire Live that around 80 primary and 50 secondary teachers were sent the same email on Friday afternoon informing them they would not be offered temporary or fixed-term contracts for the new school term.The letter, sent to the teachers at 3.39pm on Friday, states: “The workforce plans for August 2023 are in their final stages, and at present unfortunately we are unable to offer you a temporary or fixed term contract from August 2023 due to limited employment opportunities within the primary sector at this time.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.
