Oscars nominees told to show up in person as Zoom is 'not an option'

contenders to win an Oscar and have been invited out to Los Angeles for a “safe and enjoyable evening” for nominees, guests, presenters and “millions of film fans around the world”.

In a break from other recent award ceremonies, which have largely been held virtually, the show’s producers are attempting to inject some glamour back into the event, with “casual” attire banned and speeches encouraged to be short and personal.

In a letter sent to all nominees ahead of the April 25 ceremony, producers Steven Soderbergh, Stacey Sher and Jesse Collins said: “Our plan is to stage an intimate, in-person event at Union Station in Los Angeles, with additional show elements live from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. ”While the pandemic has halted much.
