Members of the public were told to only attend A&E at a Greater Manchester hospital trust 'if absolutely necessary' on Wednesday night (January 10) amid another warning about mounting pressures on its services.
The accident and emergency department at the Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was said to be 'extremely busy' with people braced for potentially long waits.
People were told to only attend the emergency department in 'life-threatening emergencies' such as loss of consciousness, fits that are not stopping, chest pain, breathing difficulties, severe bleeding or burns, severe allergic reactions, a stroke or major trauma.
