Irrespective of assurances from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that game time was on the horizon, Donny van de Beek once again finds himself out in the cold after failing to play a single minute of any of Manchester United’s last three matches.
The Dutchman was close to a deadline day switch to Everton, though the United boss blocked the same, telling Van de Beek he remained in his plans.
Yet the same has so far been nothing more than a false promise. Solskajer’s decision to continually overlook Van de Beek would make more sense had United’s recent form been on song, yet their fortuitous last-minute victory against Villarreal was sandwiched in between two despairing results and performances against Aston Villa and Everton.
