Notorious former sports star OJ Simpson has passed away aged 76 from cancer. It was reported in early 2024 that the American former football running back had been diagnosed with prostate cancer, and on Wednesday, 10 April, he succumbed to the illness.
His family announced his death on Twitter on 11 April with a statement that read: "On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer.
He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. "During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace. -The Simpson Family." After reports emerged earlier this year that OJ was battling cancer, he was said to have disputed these claims, with Local 10 News reporting that he told friends: "Hospice?
Hospice? You talking about hospice?" and "No, I'm not in any hospice, I don't know who put that out there. But whoever put that out there, I guess it's like the Donald [Trump] says, 'You can't trust the media.'" He also added: "In any event, I'm hosting a tonne of friends for the Super Bowl here in Las Vegas and all is well.Take care and have a good Super Bowl weekend." Notably, in the Simpson family statement announcing his death, they said he "succumbed to his battle with cancer".
