A column chronicling conversations and events on the awards circuit. This week, interviews with Amy Pascal, Daniel Craig and Cary Joji Fukunaga on finding elusive Oscar love for the two buzziest blockbusters of the year, plus why Oscar screenplay frontrunners aren’t eligible for the WGA Awards, and why March is becoming the equivalent of a pileup on the 405 — awards-wise that is.COVID CHASES OUT AWARDS SHOWS BUT WE’LL ALWAYS HAVE THOSE GLOBESThis week it has been a rush to the exit for any awards show previously scheduled in January and February.

The only ones staying put so far are the Annies and SAG Awards on the final weekend of February. Otherwise, the moving van is out for the Critics Choice Awards heading to the same day as BAFTA on March 13, the PGA Awards leapfrogging from February 26 to March 19, the ACE Eddies going from February 26 to March 6, the AFI Awards Luncheon landing on March 12 from January 7, the SCL Awards rescheduled to March 8 and who knows what else as the Omicron stampede continues and organizers try to hit safe space. These shows are now crowding into a month that already includes the DGA Awards on March 12, plus the usual crunch of pre-Oscar below-the-line guild shows such as Costume Designers (3/9), Art Directors (3/5), Visual Effects Society (3/8), MPSE (3/13), Artios (3/17), CAS (3/19) and ASC (3/20).

There is also the Oscar Nominees Luncheon set for March 7, and the Indie Spirits which actually Film Independent decided months ago to move up three weeks from its usual day before Oscars to March 6.

You have to wonder if they picked the wrong year to go earlier.Oh, and I left out the WGA Awards which always go pretty late in the season and have been set on March 20 for some time.

Iconic BA jet bought for just £1 transformed into bar to host lavish parties
British Airways has become the first in the world to be transformed into a bar to host lavish plane parties. The BA Negus 'party plane', which was bought for the bargain price of £1, is now in situ at the privately owned Cotswolds Airport - and is available for revellers to hire.It has been remodelled into an events space to host everything from private birthday parties to product launches and corporate events. The aircraft is being preserved at the site near Cirencester after British Airways retired its fleet early because of the travel downturn caused by the pandemic. It was bought for just £1 back in 2020 and has since been a labour of love for the airport's chief executive Suzannah Harvey after British Airways retired its fleet early due to the pandemic.Suzannah said: "I paid a pound for her, and we have a certain obligation to maintain it as is practical for public use."The company has had to spend nearly £500,000 getting her prepped and ready here, but I think it's money well spent and it preserves her for future generations."Most of the original structure has stayed the same, however the transformation has included stripping out the economy section to create the events space and turning the gallery has been changed into a bar.A full rewiring with custom lighting has been done while it also took one man a whole week and a half to give it a good clean inside and out.Suzannah added: "It's been a long old slog. She came into us in October 2020, and at the time I rather naively thought we'd have her up and running by the following Easter."We've had such tremendous support from everybody.

Backstage secrets from Trisha Goddard's show – free cigarettes to wild parties
ITV in 1998.Setting the world to rights with her engaging and sometimes controversial topics, Trisha captivated viewers while trying her best to help those in need who may have problems with their relationships.Following the format of American productions like Maury and The Jerry Springer Show, the programme quickly became a hit among Brits who were keen to see guests hang their dirty laundry in public. After an internal dispute with ITV, Trisha moved her programme over to Channel 5 in 2004 and renamed it Trisha Goddard before the programme ended in 2010.Although there was plenty of drama on-screen, there was also quite a lot going on behind the scenes that many are unaware of.Daily Star has taken a look at the backstage secrets from the show.During the 1990s and early 2000s, smoking indoors was legal and common throughout the UK.A number of Trisha's guests who appeared on the show smoked, so the programme would provide them with free packs of cigarettes to keep them calm and happy before they went on set.Talking to the Mirror about the show, an insider previously said that guests would have an order once they arrived in the studios and a production runner would head to the shops to pick up whatever they requested. The insider explained: "The guests would all be given free cigarettes to keep them happy."Smoking indoors was legal at the time and they would all be puffing away in their dressing rooms."Someone would be dispatched early doors to take a cigarette order from them all, then a runner would go to the corner shop and buy packets of fags to take back to the studio for the guests."According to another insider who previously worked on the show, wild parties and nights out took place frequently too.
