Passengers have slammed Northern rail as ‘the enemy of my life’ after the firm paid out £2.4 million in delay repay compensation last year.
New figures show the operator forked £500,000 more in compensation compared to 2023, meaning delays and compensation from government-owned Northern shot up since Labour won the election.
Freedom of Information request data shows Northern spent £1.5m on compensation between June and December 2024, spiking in November at £382,781, four months after Keir Starmer became Prime Minister.
