Three publicly-owned rail operators serving passengers in the north including Greater Manchester have confirmed a new train swapping agreement, it was announced today.
TransPennine Express (TPE) became the second operator of trains serving Greater Manchester to be brought under government control after months of poor performance in May last year.
Northern, the largest rail company in the north, was renationalised in March, 2020, when it's franchise was taken into public ownership.
As a consequence, the government began operating services for both firms through the public-sector operator.
