Norman Lloyd dead: Acting legend who worked with Chaplin and Hitchcock dies aged 106

Emmy-nominated actor Norman Lloyd has passed away at the age of 106. The actor, producer and director, famous for Dead Poets Society and The Practice, reportedly died in his sleep at his Los Angeles home on May 10.

The cause of his death is currently unknown. A family friend confirmed his passing to Deadline. The actor was born in 1914 and started his career in showbiz on the New York stage.

He was the last surviving member of the Orson Welles’ Mercury Theatre - the place his acting career blossomed from after being cast in a modern adaptation of Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar.

He was originally cast to star in Citizen Kane but stepped away from the project due to budget issues. His screen debut came in 1942 when he starred in Alfred
