Non-urgent surgery and appointments are due to begin again across Greater Manchester’s hospitals as the Army are drafted in.

High and rising levels of staff absence forced health bosses to ‘pause’ elective activity across the region’s healthcare trusts at the start of the month.

At the beginning of the month around 15 percent of the region’s workforce were off, either ill with Covid or isolating, Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership said at the time. And 120 Army and Navy personnel will be deployed into the region’s hospitals to help manage the ongoing impacts brought by the Omicron wave of coronavirus.
