In July 2019 Lissie Harper had never been happier. She'd just wed her handsome childhood sweetheart, PC Andrew Harper, in a fairytale wedding.
The golden couple, both 28 at the time, dreamed of a long and happy future and hoped for a family one day, too. “Andrew had this ability to walk into a room and just light it up,” says Lissie. “Our wedding day was perfect.” Yet just four blissful weeks after the Wallingford couple tied the knot, Lissie’s life was shattered when her new groom responded to an emergency call that tragically ended his life.
Now almost three years later, Lissie feels like she never received justice. "I was so sure that the justice system would succeed in providing exactly that...justice," she says. "But it was ultimately not the case." It was 15 August 2019 when the courageous officer – who’d technically finished his shift – went to investigate a robbery.
He was caught in the tow rope of a getaway car, dragged at high speed for over a mile, and died at 11.45pm by the roadside in Sulhamstead, Berkshire.
