Saliba was signed for £27million in the summer of 2019, before being sent back to Saint-Etienne on loan for the season. However, a combination of injuries and the Covid-19 outbreak, restricted the Frenchman to just 12 appearances.
That meant Mikel Arteta didn’t feel he had built up the kind of experience that could see him make an impact on the first team at the Emirates.
