The Newsnight episode saying Dominic Cummings broke lockdown fuelled nearly 24,000 complaints. Viewers at home were so enraged they filed 23,674 complaints over the episode in question where Emily Maitlis addressed the Prime Minister’s chief adviser in the lockdown row.
Complaints flooding the BBC claimed the news segment had showed “bias against Dominic Cummings and/or the Government”. The Newsnight episode examined Mr Cummings taking the long-haul car journey to Durham from London while the UK remained in the grip of lockdown.
His actions sparked criticism from the public when the news hit headlines. In a stinging attack, BBC presenter Emily laid into Mr Cummings when she opened the BBC Two show.
