A couple on their honeymoon in Rome have been left stranded for three days after their flight home was axed amid a major UK airspace "network-wide failure".Newlyweds Samantha and Liam Burns, from Kennoway in Fife, were due to fly home to Edinburgh on Monday after a four-day trip in the Italian capital.
The couple were amongst holidaymakers caught up in the travel chaos after flights in and out of the UK were grounded yesterday, leading to further disruption this week.
When they arrived at Ciampino Airport, they were faced with a 10-hour delay to board their Ryanair flight home. After waiting in a queue for hours, the weary travellers were told their flight back to Scotland had been cancelled.Ryanair then informed the couple - who were due home to collect their two children aged eight and 11 - that the next available flight was three days later on Thursday, August 31.
Samantha, 32, who is diabetic, told the Record: "It has been chaotic. When we arrived at the airport, there were queues everywhere and everyone was glued to their phones just trying to figure out what was going on."Everyone was sitting at the gate and not one person came to tell us the flight had been cancelled.
