Elsa Keslassy International Correspondent European distributor Newen Connect has boarded “All in Favor,” a bigscreen adaptation of Santiago Requejo’s award-winning short film “Votamos.” “All in Favor” is set at a downtown Madrid building where an ordinary meeting of neighbors to vote on the change of elevator escalates into a full-blown conflict after the unexpected announcement that a new tenant with mental health issues will rent an apartment.
Requejo is writing and director the feature film with an ensemble cast including Clara Lago (“Spanish Affair”), Gonzalo de Castro, Tito Valverde, Raúl Fernández de Pablo, Neus Sanz (“Volver”), Charo Reina, Christian Checa (“On the Fringe”) and Pepe Carrasco (“Way Down”).
The filmmaker said he believed in the universal themes of “All in Favor,” because it tells a story that “can reach, entertain, and move people from many countries.” Requejo’s short came out in 2021 and went on to win more than 100 international awards, earned a nomination at the Goya Awards, and was shortlisted for an Oscar.
It was then turned into a stage play, which he co-wrote with Javier Lorenzo and Raul Barranco. The stage version premiered in Buenos Aires in April 2023.
