New Year's Eve weather maps turn purple with heavy snow to fall on UK as far south as Devon

Large parts of the UK could wake up to a snowy New Year's Eve, according to WXCHARTS weather maps.The maps have turned various shades of purple, indicating that heavy snow is on its way and could hit the UK as far south as Devon.

London might see a snowy end to 2024, with 1.5cm of snow predicted to fall per hour in the capital at midnight. Parts of the West Midlands and the East of England could also be blanketed in snow, with depths predicted to reach 0.6cm.

Wales won't miss out on the New Year's flakes, with northern and central parts forecast a maximum of 1cm per hour.The Scottish Highlands will also see a flurry of snow.

The snow will worsen throughout the night, with Wales barely even visible on weather maps at 6am on New Year's Eve. Key areas including, Cardiff, Swansea and Aberwstwyth, will all be blanketed in snow.
