New weather maps from the Met Office show that large parts of the UK will be hit with heavy snow over a period of 24 hours this weekend.
Two amber warnings will come into force from Saturday evening covering large parts of northern England, Wales and the Midlands, with up to 7cm of snowfall expected across the warning area.
However on areas of higher ground, as much as 40cm of snow could come down, the Met Office said. An area of low pressure will move into the UK from the southwest on Saturday, initially bringing rain which will soon turn to snow.
As the rain bumps into the cold air over the UK, parts of the country will start to see snow during the late afternoon and through the evening into Sunday.
