New storm warning issued with heavy rain and high winds continuing in Perth and Kinross

Astonishing wind speeds were recorded in Perth and Kinross through Sunday and Monday as Storm Isha swept through the region - with another storm to arrive tomorrow.The extreme overnight winds caused road closures, power cuts to thousands of homes, and even ground the train service to a halt.And more strong gusts are expected to hit Perth and Kinross over the next two days as Storm Jocelyn rolls in.A rare red danger to life warning was issued by the Met Office on Sunday - the first since Storm Arwen in December 2021 - for the northeast of Scotland from 1am to 5am on Monday.It joined an amber warning for high winds across most of the country - particularly exposed coastal areas in the north - from 6pm on Sunday to 6am on Monday.

A yellow wind warning remained in place across the country until noon today.Police urged people to only travel “if absolutely necessary” as winds of up to 80mph led to debris on roads, flooding and short notice closures.It is the second storm to hit Perth and Kinross in the space of a month after Storm Gerrit wrecked havoc just after Christmas.Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) said weather conditions became “more severe” than initially forecast with over 25,000 customers affected by power cuts.In their latest update, SSEN confirmed supply had been successfully restored to nearly 23,000 customers, with 8,700 properties still cut off.Andy Smith, operations director at SSEN Distribution, based in Perth, said: “We have been tracking the forecast for Storm Isha for the past week, and given the severity of the winds predicted, we have scaled-up our response appropriately to meet the challenge we’re facing.“I’d like to reassure everyone we are doing everything we can to restore power as
