Forecasters have warned that a 280-mile band of snow will hit large parts of the north of England and Scotland on New Year's Day.
The Met Office has published a new weather map, which shows a huge band of snow arriving in the UK around noon on January 1.
With temperatures hovering around 4c in Greater Manchester, up to 5cm of snow could fall by midnight in the worst affected areas.
The area of snow on the Met Office map stretches 280 miles from near Kilbirnie in Scotland to Chesterfield in South Yorkshire.
