New Work and Pensions Secretary Liz Kendall is set to confirm Labour’s commitments to its manifesto Back to Work plan and say tackling economic inactivity is central to the UK Government’s number one mission of growing the economy during a visit to a Jobcentre in Leeds on Tuesday.
The creation of more good jobs and a promise to tackle the root causes of worklessness are top priorities for the Labour Government, the Work and Pensions Secretary has said.
Following a manifesto promise, the party said Jobcentre Plus and the National Careers Service will be merged in an effort to both get more people into work and support people to find better paid jobs.
It has also promised more disabled people and those with health conditions will be supported to get into and remain in work “by devolving more power to local areas so they can shape a joined-up work, health, and skills offer that suits the needs of the people they serve”.
