A Scots roofer has said he has been forced to fork out £40,000 on new vehicles to comply with Edinburgh's Low Emmission Zone ( LEZ) which came into force in June.

Scott Miller owns a roofing company called Compass Roofing Limited and is just one of many small business owners in the capital who are shelling out cash so they can get to jobs in the city centre.

The LEZ covers Old Town, Princes Street, and parts of the West End, and over £300k in fines were issued in its first month, reports Edinburgh Live.Scott has had to replace four vans so his vehicles comply with the new rules. He said: “It’s never a good time to spend £40,000 on something you don’t need to spend it on. “The vans were roadworthy, they were well-maintained, and they were good vans. [I felt like] I didn't have to spend it.

But I did have to spend it in relation to accessing the LEZ.” Get the latest news sent straight to your messages by joining our WhatsApp community today. You'll receive daily updates on breaking news as well as the top headlines across Scotland. No one will be able to see who is signed up and no one can send messages except the Daily Record team. All you have to do is click here if you're on mobile, select 'Join Community' and you're in!If you're on a desktop, simply scan the QR code above with your phone and click 'Join Community'.We also treat our community members to special offers, promotions, and adverts from us and our partners.
