It's hard to understand why anyone would ever want to marry Neighbours' ruthless, scheming businessman, Paul Robinson. But back in the late 1980s, Gail Lewis did just that – becoming Gail Robinson in the process – when the pair cooked up the plan solely to fool Japanese businessman Mr Udagawa, thereby securing a deal with him for the Daniels Corporation, where they both worked. The backstory was that Gail had worked with Paul when they were both flight attendants, and they had both become ruthless business people, each with a previous marriage behind them.

As a result, they married in the living room of 22 Ramsay Street, where Dr Clive Gibbons also lived, in a simple ceremony in front of their families.

But Gail actress Fiona Corke, who made her first appearance on the Aussie soap in March 1987, soon decided it was time to move on – although not before experiencing a level of fan hysteria that she said "was so full on and so huge, you didn't know if you were an actor or in a pop group." At the time, Neighbours' popularity had grown so much in the UK, it was regularly attracting millions of daily viewers – with Scott and Charlene's wedding securing an audience of 20 million when it aired in November 1988.

Gail's character was subequently written out of the show in August 1989, when she split from Paul while pregnant with their triplets, deciding to move to Tazmania.
