Neighbours hear "bang and boom" on road during shooting

For the latest Oldham news sign up to the MyOldham newsletter here Residents living close to where a shooting took place in Oldham last night say they heard a 'bang' - and thought little of it.

Greater Manchester Police has launched an investigation after shots were fired at the Texaco garage on Hollins Road, Hollinwood, at around 11.20pm on Thursday (May 14).

Neighbours told the Manchester Evening News that they heard the sound of the gun but assumed it was a car backfiring or a firework.

But many were woken by a helicopter flying low in the area at around 1am, believed to be police searching the scene, and the sight of a police cordon this morning made them realise something more serious had happened.
