NASA’s Mars rover has collected a rock sample from Mars that has textures “unlike anything we’ve ever seen before,” the space agency has said.
The sample, collected by the Perseverance rover, could help scientists to understand the Red Planet’s history and finally reveal whether Mars has ever hosted life.
Named “Silver Mountain”, the rock core sample was collected from Crater Rim on the planet’s Witch Hazel Hill. The sample will be sealed into a tube and brought back to Earth to be analysed in a lab.
NASA’s Perseverance Mars Rover said on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Now that I've completed my climb out of Jezero Crater, I'm back to #SamplingMars! “My 26th sample, known as "Silver Mountain," has textures unlike anything we've seen before.
