‘My son paid £180 for Nike trainers that did not exist’

​Dear Sally,Earlier this year my son found some special Nike trainers he wanted to buy on Depop, the online marketplace. He was persuaded by the seller to visit an Instagram account to make the transaction via PayPal, the online payments company.

He felt comfortable with this suggestion because it involved PayPal and so duly paid the £180 with his debit card.The trainers never turned up and when my son tried to find out what had happened he discovered that both the seller’s Depop and Instagram accounts had disappeared.
