But there was one catch - their children, without their parent's knowledge, were also invited along to help them along the way.
With contestants such as Caroline McGirr, 51, from Glasgow, Clayton Byfield, 57, from Nottingham and Monique Payneeandy, 50, from north London, many won over the hearts of the nation.
And when one couple in particular, Roger Hawes and Janey Smith appeared to find the one, it made even the most pessimistic people find love.
