A note-perfect Lanarkshire teenager is the 2023 winner of a prestigious prize in memory of composer Harry Barry.Sophie Ramsay, 16, who is deaf in one ear, plays the guitar and sings, and was presented with a trophy by Harry’s daughter Kate after impressing judges with her songwriting skills.The talented fifth-year Uddingston Grammar pupil started playing guitar at the age of 12 and has written more than 50 songs.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

I am very chuffed; delighted in fact. My family are so proud.“It’ll be great to record my songs in a real studio. I can’t wait.”The Harry Barry Prize for Music was launched by his family in 2015 as a tribute to the composer, performer and producer, who died suddenly in 2013.Harry, who has a huge back catalogue, wrote hundreds of jingles and songs in a career spanning 50 years.
