A mum-of-three died after struggling to cope with lockdown restrictions, an inquest heard. Laura Medcalf was found unresponsive at the Moorside Unit at Trafford General Hospital on February 17, 2021.
She was rushed to the intensive care unit but sadly went into cardiac arrest and died. The 45-year-old had been referred to the mental health ward just months earlier after overdosing on painkillers in December 2020.
An inquest into her death was held by senior coroner Alison Mutch at Stockport Coroner’s Court on Monday (April 4). It heard how Mrs Medcalf’s husband Paul first became aware of her mental health struggles following her overdose on December 10.
He told the court he was driving home from work when he took a call from Mrs Medcalf. READ MORE: Manchester Airport worker says he's quit his job in 'disgust over way it's being run' He recalled her acting oddly on the phone, saying she “just wanted to go to sleep”.
