Murder investigation launched as man dies after city centre attack

A murder investigation has been launched after a young man died following an assault in a city centre yesterday evening. Police confirmed that at around 5.50pm, emergency services were called to an internet café on London Road after a report an 18-year-old man had been attacked in Liverpool.

Officers attended and an ambulance took the victim to hospital where he was sadly pronounced dead. According to Liverpool Echo, emergency services flooded London Road and the surrounding area as eyewitnesses said a “very large” cordon was in place.

The cordon covered parts of London Road as well as Anson Street. Around 12 police cars and vans were seen at the scene as forensics were pictured outside a building.

Police vehicles and several officers were also seen outside the Royal Liverpool University Hospital on Saturday evening. Detective Chief Inspector Terry Davies said: “It is with great sadness that we confirm that an 18-year-old male has died following an incident in Liverpool city centre this evening (Saturday 16 April).
