Mum distraught after only getting 'brief cuddle' with newborn before Covid separates them

A mum has been left distraught after being forced to separate from her newborn baby as soon as she gave birth. The woman is currently in hospital after delivering her baby boy on New Year's Day - but the child, who was born full term, was dashed to the neo-natal unit after having breathing issues.

The woman says she had just a 'brief cuddle' with her son as soon as he was born before he was whisked to NICU. But she was devastated when a woman on the maternity ward tested positive for Covid and she was told she too had been exposed so would not be allowed to enter the NICU - despite testing negative.
