A judge blasted the ‘extraordinary’ decision of a mum to join in with a riot while she was pushing her child in a pram. Nevey Smith, 21, was caught on camera throwing water towards police and asylum seekers following a ‘protest’ outside a hotel in north Manchester.
Missiles including bricks and bottles were launched towards the building, on Oldham Road in Newton Heath on July 31, which was being used to house asylum seekers.
Smith was not involved in violence, and the ‘height’ of the case against her was that she threw water towards police and asylum seekers being escorted inside.
But Judge Patrick Field KC said it was an ‘extraordinary and concerning feature’ of the case that the single mother Smith attended the incident with her 20-month-old son.
