Pampered MPs’ groans about the dining rooms in the Commons have left a nasty taste in the mouth. They whinged about the food and prices – even though the restaurants, bars and tea rooms were subsidised by £3.1million of taxpayers’ dosh in 2018.

They moaned about salty shepherd’s pie, mushy sponge cakes and not enough bacon in the butties. They even got in a grump about having to drink coffee from a machine.

And a vegetarian Christmas sarnie was deemed way too expensive at £3.10. One diner, unhappy with their morning bangers, wrote: “This morning I got a sausage sandwich from Courtyard canteen in Richmond House. “The way it is done now is not good.
