An MP has called on Greater Manchester Police to provide 'meaningful assurances' and refer itself to the police watchdog after the Manchester Evening News published shocking footage which shows an armed officer kicking a man in the head during an arrest at Manchester Airport.

Afzal Khan spoke out over the clip, which has been widely shared on social media, which was filmed at the airport on Wednesday afternoon (July 24).

Police have said they were called to an 'altercation' between members of the public in Terminal 2 before its officers were subjected to a 'violent assault' while trying to make an arrest.

The force has said the footage is being reviewed by its Professional Standards Branch but Labour veteran Mr Khan urged GMP to call in the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
