Molly-Mae Hague was turned down by Love Island bosses before triumphant return
dailystar.co.ukMolly-Mae Hague left the Love Island villa in 2019 and became the most successful contestant to come out of the ITV show.The starlet has gone on to become creative director of PrettyLittleThing, create her own self-tanning brand and, most recently, release her own book, Becoming Molly-Mae.However, things could have gone incredibly differently for the famous influencer, with Molly-Mae now revealing that she actually tried to go on the show the year prior.In her new book released on June 9, Molly said she "manifested" going on the show, but she added that she did have some setbacks along the way.
She said: "I had actually auditioned for Love Island the previous year, when I had just turned 18 and living with my mum. "I sent off an application form and the production team asked me to come in for an audition in London.
I wore red trousers and a black top - I remember it so clearly - and sat in a room with about 30 or 40 other girls, all of us waiting to be called in one by one." Molly-Mae confessed she wasn't being engaging in her interview and was "really quiet".
She added in the book: "Looking back, [I was] just too young and not ready. I know that I hadn't got a place on the show." The 23-year-old said she is "really glad" she didn't get the spot the first time, adding that it was the "right moment" the following year.
