Mindy Kaling Shares Heartbreaking Moment Between BJ Novak & Her Daughter at Recent Birthday Party

Mindy Kaling is opening up about a recent moment that happened between her longtime best friend BJ Novak and her daughter.

The 45-year-old actress, writer and producer shared the interaction between the two at her youngest daughter Anne‘s first birthday party while appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Wednesday night (February 26). Keep reading to find out more… Mindy explained that for the birthday party, she dressed up in an Elmo costume, but her eldest daughter Katherine, 7, saw right through it in what she calls a “chilling moment.” “Their godfather BJ was also there where she turned to BJ and said, ‘Wait, is mom Elmo?’ and it’s one of those things where he was like, ‘Okay, there’s a lot of other things you’re gonna learn about but I think I should be upfront with you, you’re seven, you’re in first grade,’” Mindy explained. “And he’s like, ‘Yeah, yeah kid, she’s Elmo,’ and it was like a little heartbreaking for her, I think,” she added.

When asked if BJ would ruin others for her, Mindy said, “I think the one she definitely does not want ruined is the Tooth Fairy, because how lucrative it is.” During her appearance, Mindy also talked about interning for Conan O’Brien, tasted the viral $19 strawberry with Jimmy and promoted her new show Running Point, which she created, co-wrote and produced.
