Mikel Arteta has told Emiliano Martinez that a string of impressive performances will not be enough to usurp Bernd Leno as the club's No 1.
Instead he wants the goalkeeper to be a consistent performer for Arsenal over a prolonged period. The Argentine has deputised for Leno following the German's injury at Brighton when the Premier League restarted.
That match ended badly with Martinez conceding a stoppage time goal, but since then he has kept three clean sheets in four games.
Arteta has praised the 27-year-old's patience but warned him that he must continued producing. He said: "That's what he's been trying to do for a long period now at the club.
