Award-winning film director Michael Apted has died at the age of 79. Michael was best known for helming the Up documentary series, which followed the same group of people at different stages of their lives, starting when they were children right into their sixties.
Among his other directing credits were The Coal Miner’s Daughter, which was nominated for seven Oscars, Gorillas In The Mist and the James Bond film The World Is Not Enough.
His agent confirmed that Michael died at his home in Los Angeles. No cause of death was given. Throughout his career, Michael was awarded four Baftas, three of which were for his Up documentaries.
