Met Office warns 'avoid these areas' and 'stay inside' as Storm Darragh amber alert issued

The Met Office is urging people to avoid certain areas and remain indoors this weekend as Storm Darragh is set to hit the UK.

The weather agency has issued an amber wind warning for parts of the UK, with wind gusts of up to 80mph predicted for some coastal areas.

The warning for "potentially damaging" winds is in place for the west coast of the UK from South Ayrshire in Scotland down to Cornwall, as well as in Northern Ireland, on Saturday from 3am until 9pm.

In the latest weekend weather forecast, Met Office meteorologist Honour Criswick said: "Storm Darragh has been named and will bring heavy outbreaks of rain as we head into the weekend as well as very strong winds at times.
