The Met Office has issued a snow and ice warning affecting parts of the UK this week. After a cold weekend, some northern parts of the UK could see more snow on Tuesday, according to the latest warning from the UK weather agency, Weather warnings are issued by the Met Office up to seven days ahead and aim to warn people when disruption is likely to occur due to the weather conditions.

There are three levels of warnings depending on the severity - yellow, amber and red. Yellow warnings are fairly common, but red warnings are much more rare.

Weather warnings can be issued due to extreme heat, snow, rain, wind, fog or other conditions. This yellow warning for snow and ice comes into affect at 3am on Tuesday morning, February 17, and remains in place until 12pm the same day.

It impacts parts of Scotland including Grampian and Strathclyde. The warning reads: "Snow and freezing rain may make for difficult driving conditions, especially over higher routes." There are no warnings in place outside of Scotland, but it is expected to be a cold and rainy week in most parts of the country.
