Men in Manchester expected to live shorter lives than almost anywhere else in England

Life expectancy for men in Manchester is among the lowest in the the country, new data has revealed. Only Blackpool has a lower life expectancy for men in England while women in Manchester have the third lowest life expectancy in the country.

The latest life expectancy data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) also shows 'clear geographical divides'. All of the 10 top areas with the highest life expectancy across Britain between 2021 and 2023 were in the south of England, while seven of the 10 lowest life expectancy areas were in Scotland.

This is the first time in five years that life expectancy has increased, having peaked at 76.6 years for men and 80.33 years for women in 2017 to 2019.
