Melissa Etheridge has said her ‘heart is broken’ following the death of her son Beckett Cypher aged 21 following a battle with drug addiction.
The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter released a statement overnight on the tragic loss. The star said her son, one of her two children with former partner Julie Cypher, had struggled with opioid abuse and said Cypher ‘succumbed’ to his addiction this week.
His death was announced on Twitter earlier on Wednesday night as Etheridge went on to break her silence. The 58-year-old wrote on Instagram: ‘Today I joined the hundreds of thousands of families who have lost loved ones to opioid addiction. ‘My son Beckett, who was just 21, struggled to overcome his addiction and finally succumbed to it today.
