Former First Lady Melania Trump, in her first remarks since the assassination attempt on the life of her husband, Donald Trump, said that “the fabric of our gentle nation is tattered,” while she called for a more humane approach to political discourse that has gotten increasingly toxic. “We have always been a unique nation,” Trump wrote in a message posted on her X/Twitter account. “America, the fabric of our gentle nation is tattered, but our courage and common sense must ascend and bring us back together as one.” She wrote that “when I watched that violent bullet strike my husband, Donald, I realized my life, and Barron’s life, were on the brink of a devastating change.” She wrote that “a monster who recognized my husband as an inhuman political machine attempted to ring out Donald’s passion — his laughter, ingenuity, love of music and inspiration.

The core facts of my husband’s life — his human side — were buried below the political machine. Donald, the generous and caring man who I have been through the best of times and the worst of times.” The former first lady is not scheduled to speak at the Republican National Convention this week, but she reportedly will attend. “Let us not forget that differing opinions, policy, and political games are inferior to love,” she wrote. “Our personal, structural, and life commitment — until death — is at serious risk.

Political concepts are simple when compared to us, human beings.” pic.twitter.com/IGIWzL6SMJ By providing your information, you agree to our Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy.
