Donald Trump has disclosed that his wife Melania can't talk about the assassination attempt on him and gave a peculiar six-word explanation for it.The US presidential candidate was targeted by 20-year-old gunman Thomas Matthew Crooks at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13.The incident left one spectator dead, two seriously injured and Trump with a bloody ear.The ex-president revealed that his wife, who has been seldom seen on the campaign trail, had been watching the rally on TV.
In an interview with Fox News, he explained that Melania "can't talk about" the incident because "she likes me - she loves me".He said: "She was watching.
She was watching live. It was all over the place. It was on television." According to the FBI, Crooks is believed to have fired eight rounds towards Trump from a rooftop before being fatally shot by a Secret Service sniper, reports the Express.
The agency has since faced criticism for not securing the roof, with Trump stating there was inadequate communication with local police. In a series of dramatic photos captured just after the shooting, Trump can be seen being escorted off the stage by his security team with a bloody ear as he defiantly raised his fist into the air.In a message shared by Melania post-shooting, the former first lady expressed she was "thinking" of her "fellow Americans" and emphasised how the US has "always been a unique nation".She emphasised the need for solidarity among the public despite the "fabric" of America being "tattered".
