With the summer holidays in full swing, it's coming up to that time of year again where the royal family head to their Scottish Balmoral home to relax away from the spotlight.This year's traditional trip to the Highlands retreat is particularly special as it will be the first time the Firm spends the summer there since the passing of the late Queen Elizabeth II last September.Her Majesty's eldest son, King Charles, is keen to carry on with his mother's traditions at her favourite getaway and had extended an 'open invite' for family members to stay there at various times over the break.It is expected that the Prince and Princess of Wales will be among those that make the trip up north with their three kids Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis as well as Sophie and Edward, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.However, one royal couple not expected at Balmoral for the third time is Prince Harry and Meghan Markle or their two kids, Archie and Lilibet, the Mirror reports.Growing up as a royal, Harry spent a lot of time holidaying in Balmoral over the summer which holds some difficult memories for him as it was where he received the tragic news that his mother Princess Diana had been killed in a car accident in August 1997.Despite the Scottish retreat having a deep personal meaning to her husband, Meghan only managed one trip to Balmoral with the Queen while she was still alive, which was in 2018 after she and Harry tied the knot.
