Maya Jama bags huge new ITV gig taking over from world-famous star
ok.co.ukMaya Jama is joining the panel of The Masked Singer, it was revealed today.The Love Island host will be taking over from Rita Ora in the line-up, whose job is to guess who the celebs inside show's elaborate costumes are, alongside Jonathan Ross, Davina McCall and Mo Gilligan.
Joel Dommett is going to return as host. While many were pleased to hear that she was joining the series, others protested at the departure of Rita, whose touring and music commitments had caused her to miss episodes of the show.
One wrote: Heartbroken my idol the gorgeous Rita Ora is replaced." Another said: "Omg Rita Ora isn’t on panel this year I’m so sad it won’t be the same watching without you on it Queen love you." Rita's announcement as Masked Singer's newest star took place in a pre-recorded video that showed Jonathan, Mo and Davina getting texts, like the contestants do on Love Island, informing them a new "detective" would be joining the panel.
She was then seen turning around in a chair, saying: "Hello hello hello." ITV released a statement from Rita, which read: "“I'm such a Masked Singer fan, so joining the panel alongside Davina, Jonathan, and Mo - and of course working with Joel - is going to be so much fun! "I can't wait to figure out who's underneath all those incredible costumes, vibe to their performances, and get front-row seats to the unmaskings.
