A masked gunman held up a Post Office in Salford before calmly walking away with thousands of pounds in a carrier bag. The terrifying armed robbery took place at Walkden Post Office on Bolton Road.

Detectives are now appealing for witnesses to the raid at 2.50pm on Thursday afternoon. The robber ran into the shop then pointed a handgun at a female member of staff, before ordering her to fill the carrier bag with sterling and foreign currency.

The member of staff, who asked not to be named, described the gun as a 'old pistol with a long barrel'.
