A fragment of bedcurtain said to have been embroidered by Mary Queen of Scots is set to go up for auction after surviving a storm that threatened to ruin it.
The rare piece was being stored at a property in the Highlands when flooding brought on by Storm Jorge in 2020 almost saw it being ruined by water damage.
However, it managed to be saved and is now expected to fetch in excess of £1,000 when it goes up for auction later this month.Originally thought to have been embroidered by Scotland's most famous queen while she was imprisoned in the 16th century, it was almost lost before being discovered by an eagle-eyed antiques fan at a small auction in Scotland.It's now set to go up for sale once again – correctly attributed – at Hansons
