Martin Lewis has criticised the Conservatives over a tweet in which they tried to claim he had spoken to Labour about secret tax plans. The money saving expert pulled up Rishi Sunak’s party by saying his discussion with Labour had not been about tax.A large part of the Tory campaign has centred on claims Keir Starmer will put up people’s tax bills by £2,000.The allegation was undermined by the Treasury saying their officials had not produced the dossier. The Tories have now clashed with Lewis, who is one of the country’s most trusted figures on personal finance. In a TV interview, Lewis recounted a conversation with a “senior” Labour figure about an unnamed policy that was not in the manifesto. But Lewis said the Labour member had said it was the party’s “aim” to do it “over the next Parliament.”The Conservatives tweeted: “Labour have said they wouldn't put up your taxes.
But it's now becoming clear that they have every intention to put them up.”At the Daily Record, we'll be working tirelessly throughout the general election to keep you up to date. There are many ways you can follow along with our coverage:We will be putting out new episodes every week day with special guests, discussing the election, campaign trail and more. You can subscribe and watch on YouTube or subscribe and listen on Spotify.Got a burning question for our panel?
