Martin Lewis is urging 700,000 people to act 'by today' or risk losing out on the Winter Fuel Payment from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

This year, only pensioners who claim certain benefits from the welfare office are eligible to receive the one-off payment, which is worth up to £300.

The majority of people eligible for the payment are claiming Pension Credit, but there are thought to be hundreds of thousands of people eligible for the benefit that have not yet applied for it.

In order to get the Winter Fuel Payment, pensioners must starting claiming Pension Credit before Saturday, December 21, as the claim will then be backdated for three months, and claimants will have received the benefit during the Winter Fuel Payment qualifying week, which was in September.
